Biography

Assumpta Serna (born 16 September 1957) is a Spanish actress.

She is known for her role in I, the Worst of All (1990) portraying famous Mexican religious scholar Sor Juana, although she may be most remembered for her role as Peninsular War guerrilla commander Teresa Moreno in the first four of the ITV Richard Sharpe series of films based on the novels of Bernard Cornwell.

She also co-starred with Antonio Banderas in Matador (1986), one of the first films by Pedro Almodóvar, and she has also appeared in films such as Wild Orchid (1990), Chain of Desire (1992), Nostradamus (1994), The Shooter (1995), The Craft (1996) and Kiss & Tell (1997).

Serna was born as María Asunción Rodés Serna in Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain). She married her co-star in Sharpe's Company, Scott Cleverdon, who portrayed Lieutenant Harry Price in the film. She has also appeared in Falcon Crest, in the 2003 ITV television drama, Henry VIII, as Catherine of Aragon, and the Spanish TV series Aquí no hay quien viva.

In 2011 Serna plays one of the female leads, Vannozza dei Cattanei, mistress of Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, future Pope Alexander VI, in Tom Fontana's historical drama Borgia.

She has written two books on acting technique, "Screenacting" and "Monologues in V.O." and currently teaches courses "Acting for Camera", "Directing Actors" and "The Script and the Actor" at various acting schools and workshops. She has also served as president of AISGE, Actores e Intérpretes — Sociedad de Gestión de España, Spain's principal actors' union.

She is fluent in English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Catalan and Spanish.
