History

His first professional work was in 1985 with the rock band Looker, which recorded one independent EP and toured the USA for one year before disbanding.

In 1986 Cox moved to Los Angeles, where he joined the band Tigershark, which was led by guitarist Howard Askeland. (Cox would once again team up with Askeland almost 20 years later when Askland would join Cox's new band Deaf Symphony). Tigershark recorded and played the local Los Angeles scene until Cox left the band to pursue other projects. One of these projects was with the band Northrup, featuring singer Johnny Edwards (Montrose, King Kobra, Foreigner) up in the Sacramento area.

In 1988 Cox joined up with guitarist Neal Grusky and vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (Yngwie Malmsteen, Journey, Soul Sirkus, Trans-Siberian Orchestra) in the band Thunder, the precursor to Takara.

From that project Cox moved on to join RCA recording band Joshua (also re-formed under the name Jaguar for a time) in 1989, featuring guitarist Joshua Perahia and vocalist Robin Kyle Basauri (Die Happy). Cox remained with Jaguar until 1991.

However, after the birth of his son, Cox took a 14-year hiatus from the music business to concentrate on raising his son, and then in 2006 teamed up with guitarist Matt Cerbin to form his current recording and performing band Deaf Symphony. In 2008 his song Chains of Love was used by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), and the band subsequently became one of the coalitions Celebrity Voices Against Violence along with entertainers such as Big & Rich, Michael Bolton, Harrison Ford.

Cox is also the creator of Do-It-Yourself Drums, the DIY Road Cases product line, and is a published writer and repeating contributor for the commentary section of the Muzik Reviews web site.
