Biography

Jeris Jerome White (born September 3, 1952) is a former professional American football cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons for the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins. He played football at Radford High School, Honolulu, Hawaii, and at the University of Hawaii. He was drafted by Miami in the second round of the 1974 NFL Draft. He is also the first person from a Hawaii high and collegiate school to ever play in a Super Bowl.

White was a holdout when the Washington Redskins opened their 1983 season, so Washington replaced White with its first-round draft pick, Darrell Green, a self-described “little-bitty” kid from Division II Texas A&I. It was the beginning of a record-setting 20-year Redskins career for Green, which included two Super Bowl triumphs, seven Pro Bowls and an NFL Man of the Year award. White never played in the NFL again once Green replaced him, making it what one source described as, "one of the stupidest holdouts ever".
