High School

Carlos King Hyde grew up in Cincinnati, OH. He attended Princeton High School for his freshman year. He then moved to Naples, Florida and attended Naples High School for his final 3 years. He rushed for 1,653 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior, and was named Player of the Year after senior season by both the Naples Daily News and the Ft. Myers News-Press. He played on 2007 Naples state champion team and 2008 regional finalist. He also played basketball, ran track and mentored elementary school children.

Considered a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, he was rated as the 2nd best fullback in the nation. He committed to Ohio State over scholarship offers from Florida, Miami (Fl.) and Florida State.

Initially, Hyde didn't qualify academically to enroll at Ohio State.

College career

Hyde enrolled at Ohio State in January 2010. Hyde played primarily as a backup running back in his first two seasons before breaking out in his junior season with 970 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns in less than 10 games after missing two because of an ankle issue. He was named second-team all-Big Ten that year.

Going into his senior season with high expectations, Hyde was suspended for the first three games of the season after being implicated in an incident at a local bar, though he was not criminally charged in the matter. Hyde returned from his suspension to finish the year strong with 1,282 yards and 14 touchdowns over his last eight games. On October 5, Hyde ran for his 1st 100 yard and multi-touchdown game of the season when he ran for 168 yards and 3 touchdowns when the Buckeyes played Northwestern. Carlos ran for a season high of 246 yards and 4 touchdowns against Illinois on November 16. He was a first-team All-Big Ten selection, and a third-team All-American by the Associated Press.

San Francisco 49ers

2014 Season

There were big expectations for Carlos Hyde coming into an already crowded backfield for the San Francisco 49ers. With a large amount of depth at the position, Hyde had to compete against Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James, Marcus Lattimore, and all-time 49ers leader in rushing yards, Frank Gore. As fate would have it, an unfortunate turn of events would unfold to the favor of Hyde, which catapulted his chances of getting reps and being the second running back behind Gore. This included backup Kendall Hunter tearing his ACL during training camp, Marcus Lattimore being forced to retire due to a previous injury, and LaMichael James spraining his elbow. James was later released by the team. In the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, Hyde ran for 50 yards on 7 carries and a touchdown.

2015 Season

After Gore signed with the Indianapolis Colts, Hyde was in competition for the starting running back job for the San Francisco 49ers against Mike Davis, Reggie Bush and former rugby league star Jarryd Hayne. He was named starter for the 2015 season. In the first game, Hyde ran a career high 168 yards on 26 carries with 2 touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings. On December 12, Hyde was placed on Injured Reserve.
